A free map observation game

EarthRoyale is a simulation game that lets you watch a modern world randomly unfold. In this free-to-play idle game, you watch a 2D world map where something happens every round. Defined by its developers as an observation map game, only one of five things happen every round. Territories split up, get annexed, or expand and conquer their neighbors.

Aside from starting the game, there’s not much to do with EarthRoyale but see how things go. It feels like a less interactive version of Plague Inc or Civilization VI on autopilot. If you’re looking for a hands-free simulation experience, try this.

Relaxing yet intriguing

One of the things that new players should take note of with EarthRoyale is that there’s literally nothing else to do but observe. For starters, it does feature an accurate map of the world in the 2D space. Each nation is color-coded and they are further divided into their regions, provinces, or states. These small divisions are considered separate entities, leaving you unable to predict what would happen next.

For the simulation, the game events are random. There are set probabilities for any event happening, such as a 14% chance of a country being annexed by a neighboring state or 40% of a country splitting up. There are also possibilities of a revolt or expansion event happening. The game is not based on any real-world statistics either; every country gets the same odds of the events happening.

As the game progresses, players are given options to switch on and off, such as setting independent nations from existing territories as well as the existence of formerly sovereign states as a form of an easter egg. Lastly, the length of a game changes depending on chance. Some nations can start imploding from a series of shrinking and external attacks.

An idle strategy experience

With EarthRoyale, you can watch a virtual world play its own battle royale. You can only toggle a couple of options and the rest is up to a series of randomized events. It’s not limited to nation against nation conflicts, too, as every province has some autonomy and can just break off from its mother country. This is good for busybodies needing an idle game in the background.
